The most important part of your marketing efforts will be your website. This is how anyone interested in your event will find details and the signup form.
Each Scrapyard event will get a page on the scrapyard.hackclub.com website - for example, Scrapyard Tampa will have scrapyard.hackclub.com/tampa. Events are also welcome to add extra pages below that path (ex. scrapyard.hackclub.com/tampa/sponsors), but we provide a template for the main page.
Go to https://github.com/hackclub/scrapyard and follow the instructions in the README. You can either use the GitHub online editor or fork & clone the repository to edit it. We recommend commiting to a new branch on your fork, so that you can easily make more changes later. Once you’re done, submit a pull request and someone from the team will review it!
If you need any help with making your page, ask in #scrapyard!
You are required to make sure all your attendees have been registered with our signup system! The easiest way to do this is just by using our provided signup form, at forms.hackclub.com/scrapyard-signup. This form syncs directly with our database. You can then view your signups using an Airtable interface that we will share with you after your first signup!
If you’d like to provide a link that auto-fills the event field so that people don’t have to select your event, you’ll need to add a query parameter with your event’s slug (the lowercase, dashed version of your event’s name, like https://forms.hackclub.com/scrapyard-signup?event=[SLUG]
For example, Scrapyard San Francisco’s link is https://forms.hackclub.com/scrapyard-signup?event=san-francisco
Alternatively, if you would like to use your own form, you can use our API to send your signups to our database. See API for more information if you would like to use this.
Need the signup form in your language? Make a copy of this translation template, translate all the fields with your language, and send it in the #scrapyard channel! Someone from the team will review and create a form with your translation.
